I am a dedicated crafter and soap maker. I love to make crafts and
I have become hooked on natural soap making.
However, I can make way more than I can use, so I am offering my soaps
for sale to my brothers and sisters in Christ. I want to limit my sales to my earthly
family and church family for 2 reasons: I only want to make a modest profit
(a little extra spending money), and I don't want to have to take out
product liability insurance (which is required if I sell to the general public.)
While the probability of someone suing me over an allergic reaction is small,
I would rather not take that risk.
Since an educated customer is the best customer, I will first give you a little
background on handmade soap. Soap is made when water, lye and fats are combined
and a chemical reaction called saponification occurs. In the old days soap was often
harsh or bad smelling. This is because the lye was obtained by dripping water through
wood ashes and the fats were rendered from a variety of animal sources.
Since the lye concentration was never consistent and the fat combination varied from
batch to batch, the resulting soap either had too much lye or too much fat.
A "lye heavy" soap is harsh while a "fat heavy" (especially animal fat) soap can go rancid.
Animal fats can many times have unpleasant odors, and scenting oils were so expensive,
the odors could not be disguised.
It is believed that soap was discovered as a byproduct of animal sacrifices. The animal fats
that melted from the sacrifices would mingle with the ashes and people discovered that the
water they ran into was much better at cleaning things.
Today we have pure lye available to use and thanks to the scientists in the world, we know
exactly how much lye is needed to convert the fats and water to soap.
Essential oils and fragrance oils are much more affordable now, so handmade soaps are very
pleasant to use.
My soaps are vegetable based, mild, and gentle to the skin and well lathering.
I use top quality ingredients and, make my soaps in one pound batches to
ensure the best quality product.
I don't use fancy molds or wrappings, but my soaps are attractively presented in order
to make nice gift items.
Prices are:
$1.50 per bar plus shipping and handling
OR
$15 per one pound batch (which includes shipping and handling.)
A one pound batch refers to the weight of the oils used to make the batch,
but the 8 bars that come in that batch actually weigh more than one pound.
One pound batches can be mixed and matched between scents. All fragrances
can be made in a liquid soap or shampoo as well as a lotion bar (solid
form moisturizer) or body butter (cream form moisturizer). Price for these
items TBD.
Scents available are:
Eucalyptus
Sandalwood
Lilac
Lemon
Chocolate
Lavender
Vanilla
Peach
Red Apple
Rose
Patchoulli
Soothing Vapors (camphor/eucalyptus)
Baby Powder
Orange
Raspberry
Cherry/Almond
I have some stock on hand in some of the above scents.
All soaps are "natural" color-- an off white to light tan except for the chocolate,
which is also chocolate colored and the baby powder which can be deep chocolate brown.
This is due to the fact that the fragrance oil to produce those two scents colors the soap,
no colorants are added to the soaps.
Some soaps may be shipped while still requiring some "curing time". In that case,
I will tell you when it is ok to use the soaps, but keep that in mind when ordering.
If I don't have stock on hand, it is a minimum of 2 weeks before I can ship your order.
Scents can be blended and other scents can be made available by request.
